ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Over the two years as the 2nd District councilwoman, I have managed to make a positive difference. Here are some of my contributions.

  • Voted against the 2010-11 Budget which included a 3 mil increase and a reduction in services from the layoff of 12 town employees; arguing the budget did not have a plan to control spiraling cost, and poor decision making. As I feared, 2011 ended with a $2.0 million dollar deficit, and a loss of significant town services .

  • Voted against the 2011-12 Budget for another increase and layoff of 7 town employees. I believe the mayor’s proposed tax increase combined with a further loss of services and employees is a burden that is too much for taxpayers to bear. Published an alternative plan "I believe the town should focus its cost reductions on the items that spiral uncontrollably each year such as Call-Back, Overtime, Workmen’s Compensation, Health Claims, and Legal Fees. Also, voted down the mayor request for a $65 increase in sewer fees".

  • Secured $55 million to renovate "like new" Stratford High School.

  • Secured the final approvals and architect selection to build a new Honeyspot School.

  • Worked with Alvin O'Neal and the CDC to provide financial assistance to avoid foreclosure for delinquent homeowners.

  • Secured $600K to rebuild the Johnson Academy athletic fields (softball, football, soccer) plus the additon of a walking track.

  • Secured $160K to renovate the George Foster Woodend Avenue Baskettball and Paddleball Courts.

  • Currently working with Zoning to revise the lot size requirement for single or multi-family residences so that two family residences would need more land area than a single family residence for parking, personal enjoyment, etc.

  • Actively advocated for the police bike patrols, school resource officers, and a police substation in our district.

  • Voted in to build a new Animal Shelter, and actively lobbied for it's completion in 2011.

  • Voted immediately in first week to support public safety with the purchase of two (previously demo) fire trucks saving the town over $200K, while replacing two out-dated fire trucks.

  • Voted in favor for restored funding for the library, voted in favor for funding for Senior Van Transportation.

  • Voted in favor to provide over $3 million in Flood prevention contruction projects.

  • As a member of the Bldg Needs Committee, oversaw the completion and opening of the new EMS Facility 2011.

  • Maintains email network of community residents and sends updates with coming events and important town news. Organized 6 years of community meetings enabling residents to participate directly in key discussions on the town budget, educational issues and town/state services with top decision makers. (e.g. the mayor, superintendent of schools, town department heads, state representatives etc. )

  • Graduate Carnegie Mellon University, BS Administration and Industrial Engineering, 16 years increasing management responsibilities in large corporations (e.g. Clairol, Cadbury Schweppes, James River, Mobil Chemical) with budget control and the skills to bring those with diverse opinions together toward a common goal.
